TIP OF THE MONTH:

TOO MUCH ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE IS NOT A GOOD THING

Computer users who want to use their computer in a trouble-free environment often get drawn into a trap laid by pop-up-web-marketing-schemes. These pop ups warn that you're cruising the Internet without protection. To save yourself they tell you to download and install their program.

Often these programs are designed to grab information about you to build marketing profiles and in the worst cases to steal your identity. But they look totally legit and so unsuspecting computer users download and install.

From this background, we offer two tips based on what we often find when we do tune-ups on home and office computers.

  • First, never, never, never have more than one anti-virus program installed and running on your computer. This rule also applies to firewall software.... one and only one firewall should be installed and running on your system. Only use brand name products from vendors like AVG(Grisoft), Symantec, McAfee AND

  • Second, never download and install any program from any pop up ads when cruising the Internet. By following this rule, you'll save yourself a whole heap of trouble.

  •      If you have questions or need assistance regarding anti-virus, anti-spam and firewall software, when in doubt, check with someone who knows about the proper care and feeding of computers.
